It's a challenge for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batsmen to possess a record if not provided the possibility.

Finally, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a platform to create her newest gem.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Many contend the case for championship match pressure. Others can counter with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it was a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," stated Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts activate and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and after that the right-hander was underway.

"The possibility to take the field and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself that way, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

When she was removed the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the belief to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we believe we can achieve it."

These statements will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this victory following success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

During that phase they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is likely to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as skipper.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
